Housing
In 2002,
the military family housing at Fort Meade became privatized under
the Army's Residential Communities Initiatives (RCI) program. RCI
is intended to influence the way military families live by offering
safe, affordable, convenient and attractive residential communities.
This program permits military families to experience the same quality
homes, amenities and services offered by most conventional housing
communities, without incurring the additional cost of many off-post
communities. The Army selected Picerne Military Housing as the developer
partner to take on this mission at Fort Meade. Military family housing
was transferred to Meade Communities in May 2002. Meade Communities
is a partnership between the Army and Picerne.
Picerne's 78 years of experience in developing and managing residential
communities has been instrumental in improving the quality of life
for military families. Quality living begins before families move-in,
as each home is inspected from top to bottom. Each home receives
a comprehensive turnover and repair the first time it become vacant.
Homes are cleaned and painted, maintenance is completed and upgrades
are installed. Upgrades vary by housing area and may include items
such as new blinds, plumbing, lighting fixtures, counters, vinyl
flooring and in some cases, carpeting and new appliances. For more
information on Fort Meade housing, visit http://meadepicerne.com/Meade/home/.
Personalized service for military family housing residents starts
at the relocation Office, where families are assisted with their
housing needs and directed to the on-post neighborhood office(s)
that delivers quality-housing options. Today, five neighborhood
offices service the military families living on post. Each office
provides full service property management to its neighborhood.
The knowledgeable, dedicated neighborhood teams are available 7-days-a-week
to assist with matters such as assignment and termination, placing
work orders and resolving neighbor relations problems . Picerne
maintenance services include landscaping for each home. residents
no longer have to cut their grass or rake leaves. Picerne's broom
swept move-out policy has saved thousands of dollars for military
families, as a cleaning team is no longer necessary to clear.
Family Services is an integral component of Picerne Military Housing.
Members of our family services team work hand-in-hand with installation
programs such as the Exceptional family member Program (EFMP), and
Family Child Care (FCC) to facilitate and provide specialized services.

New Construction
Picerne will open the first new neighborhood in the summer of
2003. This neighborhood will include sub-neighborhoods of senior
NCOs, junior NCOs, company grade and field grade homes that have
been designed with input from fort Meade families. At the heart
of each neighborhood, residents will find a custom-designed neighborhood
center featuring a clubroom, swimming pool, half-court basketball
court, fitness center and coin-operated laundry.
New homes will offer larger rooms, at least three bedrooms and
two full baths, walk-in closets and an oversized garage to accommodate
additional storage needs. The will be energy efficient and computer
ready, and will include many upgraded features such as cabinets
and flooring. These homes will be designed with family needs in
mind.
Homes are just one facet of Fort Meade's neighborhoods that are
under construction. Residents will continue to enjoy amenities
such as jogging trails and a golf course, while being introduced
to new amenities such as a media center, game room, tot-lots and
inviting green spaces. Residents will no linger have to leave
their neighborhood to utilize facilities such as a fitness center,
pool or shoppette. To move into a new home, military families
must live in an existing family housing neighborhood.
